Chinese collectors a new owner of Van Gogh’s most expensive paintings
At least three of the seven most expensive paintings of Van Gogh were purchased by Chinese buyers from Hong Kong and Taiwan in Christie's auction few days ago. It should be noted that these works were purchased during the last nine years, at prices of more than 60 million dollars.
"Vase with Poppies and Daisies", the first known major Chinese purchase of a Van Gogh, left Sotheby's in 2014 for $62 million.
"Laborer in a Field" showing a stylized view of the widow from Van Gogh's bedroom in the mental asylum outside Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, sold for $81 million at Christie's in 2017 to an anonymous buyer from China.
"Young Man with a Cornflower", were sold at Christie's in 2021 for $47 million.
Starting from year 2000, among the Koreans, Russians and the Chinese a new and highly traded market as the new emerging markets have opened up for Van Gogh's works and the prices inevitably rise which has created a huge interest around the globe.
