A new immersive art experience has been touring the globe’s largest cities, allowing visitors to step into the famed artist Van Gogh’s work in a completely new way. Currently located in Los Angeles, the exhibition uses sound, color, movement, and light – allowing visitors to become completely absorbed in some of Van Gogh’s most famous works, including "Irises," "Sunflowers," and "Starry Night."
Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most famous and influential painters in Western art history. Never famous during his lifetime, Van Gogh was a prolific artist, creating over 2,100 artworks in just a decade. With his works ranging from landscapes, still lifes, portraits and self-portraits, his use of bold colors and expressive brushwork had a heavy influence on the modern art we know today. Suffering lifelong depression and years of poverty, he committed suicide at age thirty-seven, leaving behind his ouvre that would become known across the globe by art lovers and critics alike.

The exhibition begins by stepping into the Van Gogh themed world, offering photo ops that are distinctly attached to the post-impressionist painter, with touches alluding to the host city (in this case, a Van Gogh inspired Hollywood sign.) The entrance room to the exhibition also features Van Gogh themed refreshments for purchase, including sunflower cakes and various pastries.
Within this room filled with social media worthy backdrops, visitors also have a chance to learn more about Van Gogh through the wall mounted content panels and an interactive app, giving insight to the artist’s life history and artistic journey.
Visitors then step into the truly immersive part of the experience, walking through black curtains to emerge into a vast, Van Gogh wonderland. Featuring a 40 minute visual and audio experience displaying 60,600 video frames, visitors are invited to sit on the floor (VIP tickets include seat cushions), stand, or wander throughout the space seeing the moving artwork from all angles. Mirrored sculptures set in the middle of the space offer diversified views and angles of the show.
The second room continues the multisensory experience, projecting the animated versions of the artist's works on the walls and ground. Here, there is also access to an upper deck viewing platform, where visitors can experience more photo opportunities or simply watch the show from a higher vantage point.
The Van Gogh Immersive Experience offers a different way to experience art than a traditional museum, enveloping visitors in larger than life portrayals of some of the world’s best known art works. The exhibition shows Van Gogh's work as a live being, pairing the shifting images with sound and light while moving and adapting to the vast space they fill. While you are not seeing the actual famed paintings of Van Gogh in person, seeing the artist's work in this magnitude and through these production methods provides a unique and entertaining art experience.
To comply with COVID 19 safety, the venue administers temperature checks and contactless ticketing while requiring face masks and social distancing at all locations. To encourage social distancing within the show, circles are projected onto the floor melding with the artwork to indicate where separate groups or individuals should stand. Depending on the visitor, the exhibition ranges from being a 45 minute to an hour long experience, but there is no limit on how long visitors can stay and enjoy.
The exhibit is designed and conceived by Massimiliano Siccardi, with soundtrack by Luca Longobardi, who both pioneered immersive digital art experiences in France.
